Happy New Year!

I can't even believe that another year has flown by. I'm so grateful to everyone who has supported the shop since its launch and look forward to the awesome projects planned for Supercade in 2018.

The coming year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Supercade Collection and I'm hoping to celebrate with some exciting events, soon to be announced. Founded in 2008, it began with a desire to collect all the games featured in the pages of my book, Supercade: A Visual History of the Videogame Age 1971-1984 (MIT Press)... the collection has since evolved to become so much more and is now one of the most significant private collections of vintage video arcade games in the world.

What started as a few scattered games on my front porch has grown into a museum collection that's contributed to world-class exhibitions and events, and the games have been featured in the pages of Time.

With a mission of preserving the games and rich history of the Golden Age we strive to conserve the games in their original condition so future generations can experience them exactly as they were in the 1970s and 1980s. This includes maintaining vintage hardware and correct CRT monitors, and restoring the cabinets original art and components to factory spec. We stockpile ancient capacitors, chips, and sundry parts in hopes of keeping these survivors playable for the next fifty years and beyond.

A portion of sales from the Supercade online shop goes to support the collection and it is already helping to make my work more sustainable. I'm also so incredibly thankful for all of the volunteers and friends who helped maintain the collection throughout this past year... I could never do this without you.

Cheers to all of you and have a Happy New Year!

xoxo van
